A couple of weeks ago, it appeared Florida was poised to experience one of the strongest storms in recent memory as meteorologists speculated the state was going to suffer a direct hit from Hurricane Dorian.

However, in the end, it was The Bahamas that suffered the brunt of the blow, as it experienced a massive amount of destruction across its islands thanks to the Category 3 storm that hovered over the commonwealth for over a day.

People were quick to respond to the calamity, including an anonymous person who dropped $50,000 at Costco to purchase generators and food to aid people in the impacted areas and a woman who took in almost 100 dogs to protect them from the storm.

Now, according to CBS News, Michael Jordan is getting in on the action by donating $1 million to the cause a year after he pledged $2 million to help the Carolinas recover after they were ravaged by Hurricane Florance.

On Tuesday, Jordan’s spokesperson released a statement in which the legendary player expressed his condolences and promised to do everything in his power to assist the people impacted by Dorian, saying:

“I am devastated to see the destruction that Hurricane Dorian has brought to the Bahamas, where I own property and visit frequently. My heart goes out to everyone who is suffering and to those who have lost loved ones.

As the recovery and relief efforts continue, I will be tracking the situation closely and working to identify non-profit agencies where the funds will have the most impact. The Bahamian people are strong and resilient and I hope that my donation will be of help as they work to recover from this catastrophic storm.”

Good on him.
