Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin provided an update on the team’s deadline for a decision on Aaron Rodgers. Tomlin’s update comes after Rodgers’ headline-making appearance on The Pat McAfee Show the week before.

Aaron Rodgers returned to The Pat McAfee Show and, in addition to spending much of his time ripping the New York Jets new regime of head coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Moughy, didn’t sound entirely committed to the idea of playing next season, saying there are people in his “circle” going through personal issues.

Despite Rodgers’ waffling and his well-established egomania, the Pittsburgh Steelers certainly still seem open to sign him, at least based on recent comments from head coach Mike Tomlin.

Tomlin had previously indicated that the deadline for the team signing Rodgers was the start of training camp, but now the longtime Steelers’ boss seems to be tweaking that stance.

“In general, when you report to training camp, it’s a line of demarcation for development of a group, individually and collectively,” Tomlin previously said during the NFL League Meetings.

His tone slightly changed with his latest comments ahead of the NFL Draft, which will kick off from Lambeau Field in Green Bay on Thursday, April 24.

“To be quite honest with you, I don’t know that I meant that specifically for him or the circumstance. I’m just saying, in general, when you report to training camp, it’s a line of demarcation of development of a group, individually and collectively.”

Earlier this week, it was reported by The Athletic that Davante Adams said Rodgers wants the Steelers to “roll out the red carpet for him.”

During the 2024 season with the Jets, Rodgers had a passer rating of 90.5 with 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.

Rodgers led the Jets to an underwhelming 5-12 record, leading to the organization completely starting over as they fired head coach Robert Saleh, general manager Joe Douglas and Rodgers, who was cut by the team in March.
