11 MLB Teams With The Highest Win Percentages In World Series

World Series success can be hard to come by. Simply reaching the final seven-game is an accomplishment in and of itself.

There remain five MLB franchises that have yet to win the Commissioner’s Trophy. One has failed to make the World Series altogether (though that could change in 2025).

Many that have been able to reach the final series have struggled in their championship appearances. Of the league’s 29 current ball clubs to book a World Series ticket, 18 have won titles in 50% or less of their opportunities.

MLB Teams With The Highest Win Percentage In World Series.

There are 11, however, with winning percentages above the 50% threshold. They’ve won more times than they’ve lost in World Series competition.

In fact, there are some that have never dropped a World Series set, albeit in small sample sizes. Here, we’ll take a look at the teams with the highest success rates.

Again, this looks strictly at overall series results – not game-by-game totals.

Coming in at No. 11 on our list is the…

Win percentage: 56%

The Reds have played in nine World Series across their history. They’ve been able to take home five championships while having only dropped four title sets.

Cincinnati won its first World Series in 1919. It then lost in four of its next five trips. The organization was able to get back to even with back-to-back wins in 1975 and 1976 before winning its most recent title in 1990.

Win percentage: 58%

St. Louis has won the second-most World Series titles in Major League Baseball history with 11. They’ve done so across 19 all-time appearances.

The 11-8 overall mark places them just above their previously mentioned NL Central rival. Early success benefitted the Cardinals on this list.

The team won 9 of its first 12 World Series chances between 1926-1967. Since, it’s gone just 3-5 with the most recent appearance resulting in a 2013 loss to Boston.

Maybe the most interesting stat surrounding the Cardinals in postseason play is that despite owning those 11 all-time titles, the franchise has a losing game-by-game record in the World Series at 58-60.

Chicago White Sox

Win percentage: 60%

The White Sox have played for five Major League Baseball titles. They’ve gone 3-2 in those championship tries.

Chicago won its first two World Series chances in 1906 and 1917. They then dropped sets in 1919 and 1959 to fall to .500 in terms of overall series outcomes.

The franchise got back over the hump with a title win in 2005, the team’s last appearance in the World Series.

Athletics

Win percentage: 64%

The A’s have played well in their 14 World Series appearances, winning nine titles. That number is good enough for third-most in the MLB alongside the Boston Red Sox.

Unfortunately, they’ve not had an opportunity to boost those numbers in some time. The team’s last World Series appearance came in 1990. Its last title was the year before.

While they haven’t seen much success of late, the A’s remain one of baseball’s top World Series performers when given the chance.

New York Yankees

Win percentage: 66%

The Yankees have emerged victorious in about two-thirds of their World Series trips, winning 27 titles across 41 all-time appearances. Both of those numbers are tops in the MLB.

New York is the only franchise that’s won more than 100 games in World Series action at 135. The next closest team is the Cardinals at 58.

Interestingly enough, the win percentage has actually gone down in recent years. The Yankees have fallen in three of their last four World Series sets after having been above a 70% success rate prior.

Win percentage: 69%

Boston has won nine World Series titles, the third-most in Major League Baseball. That comes despite having the sixth-most total appearances.

The Red Sox have gone 9-4 in 13 championship chances. They’ve won four straight World Series opportunities dating back to 2004.

On a game-by-game basis, Boston again ranks near the top of the league with a 49-29 overall record.

Pittsburgh Pirates

Win percentage: 71%

Pittsburgh has not seen much postseason success of late. That’s largely been a result of poor regular season play. Still, it remains one of the top performers in terms of World Series performance.

The Pirates have won five Commissioner’s Trophies in seven tries. That includes championships in each of their last three attempts.

Unfortunately, they haven’t had the opportunity to better that mark in nearly 50 years. The team’s last World Series appearance came way back in 1979.

Washington Nationals

Win percentage: 100%

The Nationals are one of four teams to have a perfect rate of success in World Series appearances. They’ve done so with a very small sample size.

Washington has played for one championship. It emerged victorious with a 2019 title against the Astros.

Los Angeles Angels

Win percentage: 100%

Like the Nationals, the Angels have made just one all-time World Series appearance. Similarly, they took home a title in that lone opportunity.

Los Angeles last played for a championship in 2002 when the team was known as the Anaheim Angels. It defeated the San Francisco Giants in seven games.

Miami Marlins

Win percentage: 100%

The Marlins have won both of their World Series appearances, with the first coming in 1997 followed by a title season in 2003. They are the first team on this list with a perfect mark across multiple tries.

Both of those championships came when the team still went by the Florida Marlins. Given that the franchise has only been around since 1993, the two World Series stops (and wins) are impressive.

Toronto Blue Jays

The Blue Jays are 2-0 across two World Series appearances. Those championships came in back-to-back seasons in 1992 and 1993.

Not only does Toronto sit at the top of this list, but it also owns the highest game-by-game winning percentage in World Series history at 67%.

The team won both of its titles in six games, with each coming against current NL East foes. Toronto took down the Braves in their first run before knocking off the Phillies the following year.
