The MLS condones an ugly incident following Saturday’s game between the LA Galaxy and San Diego FC. Fans took a wild brawl into the parking lot after law enforcement stepped in to break up the initial scrum inside of Snapdragon Stadium.
Both clubs issued a joint statement to disavow the behavior.
San Diego currently sits in second place behind Vancouver in the Western Conference of the MLS with eight wins, three draws and four losses. Los Angeles ranks dead last in the entire league with only four draws. The former defeated the latter by a final score of 2-1 on an epic goal in the fifth minute of stoppage time. It was another brutal loss for a team that has yet to get in the win column.
As you could imagine, Galaxy fans were crushed. San Diego fans were jubliant.
I do not know the exact catalyst for what proceeded to unfold after the final whistle, but I would imagine the home fans were taunting the visitors. The visitors did not appreciate their behavior. Punches started to fly. That’s my best guess, at least.
A full-blown melee broke out in the upper deck of Snapdragon Stadium. Approximately 50 supporters in total were involved with the ugly incident.

Multiple fistfights broke out in the stands. Both sides also chucked various objects at each other’s heads.
A sizable police response was needed to break up the fight, however, it spilled out into the parking lot after the stadium was finally emptied. More than a dozen police cars arrived to the scene to restore order. A helicopter also flew overhead within the hour but no arrests or injuries were reported.

This is not the first incident of its kind for San Diego. Its supporters engaged in physical violence after a match against LAFC in April. The club is cracking down.
