The Nebraska Cornhuskers appeared to be on the rise in their second year under head coach Matt Rhule.

They sat at 5-1 entering last week’s game at Indiana with an increasingly impressive 28-10 victory over Colorado on their resume. But a 56-7 blowout at the hands of the Hoosiers, who are in just their first season under new coach Curt Cignetti, killed any and all hype around the program.

Nebraska fans are now as skeptical as ever about the future of the program, and the Huskers did little to help the bad vibes when they accidentally trolled themselves on social media ahead of Saturday’s game

In their weekly #WhatsNExt post advertising the upcoming game, the Huskers used a picture of senior punter Brian Buschini. Now, to Buschini’s credit, he’s a very good punter. Through seven games, he’s averaging 46.6 yards per punt, which would be a program record according to the Nebraska team website.

But suggesting that you’re going to be punting, and likely often, isn’t exactly inspiring. And fans soon chimed in.

Now, the one thing you can’t do is accuse Nebraska of false advertising. The Huskers’ offense has been anemic of late and offensive coordinator Marcus Satterfield sounded completely lost when asked about how he can fix it.

Satterfield’s offense ranks 95th in the country in yards per play, 83rd in yards per game, and 80th in points per game.

When a reporter asked him how many yards per play he’d like his team to average, Satterfield said somewhere between 4 and 6 yards.

Four yards per play would rank dead last in the country. Six, while better, would only rank 56th in the nation. Wait to aim high there, Marcus.

Ohio State, meanwhile, ranks second in the nation in yards per game allowed and seventh in yards per play.

So yeah, maybe the Huskers are in for a lot of punts on Saturday. But that’s not exactly something you’d like your favorite team to brag about.
