The Nebraska Cornhuskers host Big Ten rival Illinois in Friday night football action this week, pitting a pair of Top 25 programs against one another in Lincoln. Students should be ready to go following a recent announcement from the university.

Nebraska cancelled Friday’s in-person classes, allowing students to get an early start on gameday preparations. They’ll trade textbooks for tailgates in an effort to create as raucous an environment as possible!

The Cornhuskers have been one of the feel-good stories of the college football season through the first three weeks. Matt Rhule has his bunch off to a perfect 3-0 start under the guidance of freshman phenom Dylan Riaola.

Included in that undefeated start is a dominant win over archrival Colorado sandwiched between a pair of victories over UTEP and Northern Iowa.

Now, the next test.

The Huskers will welcome Illinois to town this week as they kick off conference play. The Illini are off to a hot start themselves, pulling out wins over Eastern Illinois, Central Michigan, and Kansas.

The winner will get an immediate leg up in the Big Ten title race!

Nebraska wants to utilize its home field advantage to the best of its ability. To get the students on board, they’ve decided to ditch Friday classes.

REMINDER: Friday, Sept. 20 will be an instructional continuity day to accommodate the Husker football game. Classes are still a go — but will not be in person. Students should check for messages from instructors on plans. Only essential employees will report to work on campus.

The university released a statement on the cancellation this week.

While classes are *technically* still a go, no one will attend in-person. Taking it a step further, professors will have the option to cancel courses altogether to allow students an opportunity to enjoy the game (and the pregame festivities).

Only essential employees will report to work!

Football season is always a big deal in Nebraska. The Cornhuskers have a storied past and a tradition of excellence.

That said, there’s been a lull over the last two decades. With the team getting off to a 3-0 start, excitement is building.

Class cancellations could signal one thing – Nebraska football is back!
