Nebraska volleyball star Harper Murray was on hand at Big Ten media days in Chicago this offseason. She claims to have run into some “weird” fans upon arriving to the airport.
Murray hopped on TikTok to post a video describing the bizarre interaction. She’s not quite sure how the fans got access to her flight information.
Murray was one of three Nebraska volleyball representative during the event, which took place on July 28th and 29th. The Cornhuskers took to the stage on Day 1. Murray grabbed immediate attention.
Who is Harper Murray?
Murray is a former No. 1 recruit and Gatorade National Player of the Year. She’s entering Season 3 with the program after being named Freshman of the Year in 2023 and leading the team in kills as a sophomore.
The Cornhuskers have made the NCAA Tournament each year she’s been on the team, reaching the semifinals last season before falling to eventual national champion Penn State.
Murray’s popularity extends well beyond the court, however. She boasts a social media following of more than 725,000 fans across TikTok and Instagram.
After the Big Ten media day event, she filled those followers in on an awkward incident amid her travels.
The Nebraska volleyball star called out a pair of male fans.
@harperrmurrayy In all seriousness tho this isn’t okay and i’m hoping to find a way to not have this happen anymore to me or anyone else.
“I have a story time for you,” she led off. “It’s a little weird, but I know it’s happened to some other female athletes… As many of you know, I was in Chicago yesterday for Big Ten media day, but I actually ended up going to Chicago a few days before that to visit some friends.
“When I got off my plane in Chicago, I had two men waiting for me. They had me sign about 50-60 photos of myself and asked me for multiple pictures.
“Before anyone asks, I was not posting that I was going to be in Chicago three days earlier than I was supposed to be. My flight was actually delayed out of Lincoln by five hours… When I was signing the photos, they apologized for the s— travel day that I had and how much of a horrible delay it was.
“They knew my exact flight number, which is a little weird. Of course, I ended up signing the pictures and taking the pictures because I didn’t know what else to do and I was scared…
“I spoke to Livvy [Dunne]. We have no idea how these men know what flight we’re on, but what we do know is that it’s happened to all three [Gabby Thomas] of us at the Chicago airport… If you’re one of the guys that asked me to sign a photo, you’re weird. Stop stalking me.”
Harper Murray flew to Chicago early, unannounced. Still, these fans knew of her flight information. She isn’t quite sure how those details got out.
Obviously, her stardom leads to attention, but she believes this was a step too far.
