With the New York Jets officially moving on from Aaron Rodgers as their quarterback, Gang Green is now in the market for a new starting QB. And according to recent reports, the team could be targeting Pittsburgh Steelers signal-caller Justin Fields.

Justin Fields, 25 years old, was taken with the 11th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears. In March 2024, Fields was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers for a for a conditional sixth-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

While Fields started in the first six games of the season for the Steelers, he was ultimately benched in favor of veteran QB Russell Wilson.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Jets could have some interest in Fields as they like “the idea” of a dual-threat quarterback.

“They could have some interest; they like the idea of a dual-threat quarterback. He’s younger. I’m told Fields has looked at that roster, sees some intrigue there too. They have some good young pieces, like Garrett Wilson, and a good defense,” ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported.

Last season with the Steelers, his first in Pittsburgh, Fields stared in six games and posted a 4-2 record. He completed 65.8% of his passes for 1,106 yards, 5 touchdowns and an interception, while also carrying the 62 times for 289 yards and five touchdowns.

Comparatively, the 41-year-old Aaron Rodgers started in 17 games for the Jets this season and posted a 5-12 record while completed 63% of his passes for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.

Finding a quarterback is obviously key to new head coach Aaron Glenn turning the franchise around, as the Jets haven’t made the playoffs in 14 years, which is the longest postseason drought in American professional sports (across the NFL, NHL, NBA, and MLB).
