It’s easy to understand why the NFL feels the urge to hype up the talents of Patrick Mahomes given his superstar status, but the league probably needs to take things down a notch after posting a nonsensical clip of the QB attempting an unorthodox throw that never had a chance of being caught.
Patrick Mahomes is currently in the midst of his seventh season as the primary starter for the Kansas City Chiefs, and I’m not really sure how anyone could argue he isn’t currently the best quarterback in the NFL.
After all, we’re talking about a two-time regular season MVP who’s led his team to four Super Bowls while winning the Lombardi Trophy three times (and securing Most Valuable Player honors in each of those victories) and is currently helming an 8-0 Chiefs squad that’s the only undefeated team in the league.
Mahomes is a wildly talented QB with an uncanny ability to consistently deliver absolute darts while scrambling for his life, pull off some incredibly slick no-look passes, and even complete throws with his left hand in situations where he was unable to get one off with his primary cannon.
During Monday night’s showdown between the Chiefs and the Buccaneers, Mahomes once again deployed a left-handed throw after getting chased out of the pocket during a wholly unremarkable play that saw him toss the football out of bounds in order to avoid falling victim to a sack.
It was a smart football play when you consider the QB avoided a potential loss of yards, but certainly not one you’d think would end up getting posted to one of the NFL’s official social media accounts.
However, that didn’t stop someone with the power to do exactly that from sharing the clip along with the caption “Imagine if Mahomes was left-handed.”

A quick look at the replies shows the post was almost universally panned by fans who were understandably baffled by the attempt to gas up Mahomes by posting a video of an incompletion accompanied by an absolutely nonsensical hypothetical,
I’m assuming the post was alluding to an equally asinine one that was similarly dragged when it was posted in 2023, and while this could be interpreted as the NFL attempting to troll and farm some good, old-fashioned engagement in the process, someone needs to inform their social media team this apparent attempt at a bit is firmly not it.
