Villanova punter Luke Larsen is the oldest player in college football on the Division-I level for 2025. He is currently in pursuit of his third different degree from his second school in six years.

The 33-year-old specialist has one year of eligibility remaining.

Some of Larsen’s college football teammates are 15 years younger. He even has the Wildcats’ fifth-year graduate transfer place kicker beat by more than a decade!

Who is Luke Larsen?

Larsen hails from Keilor Park in Victoria, Australia. The Aussie-native played four different sports in high school, including Australian Rules Football, volleyball, cricket and tennis.

American high school football as we know it is not a thing down under.

As a result, Larsen joined the workforce after he graduate from St. Bernard’s College in his home country in 2013. He owned his own small business focused on interstate logistics in general freight.

And then Larsen found out at the young age of 26 that he could earn a scholarship to punt in America. That realization led him to work with Prokick Australia, which serves as a pipeline to college football..

How did he end up at Villanova?

Luke Larsen enrolled at East Carolina University in the spring of 2020 at 27 years old. He began his freshman season of college football with the Pirates at 28.

Now five years later, Larsen ranks fourth in program history with 174 punts for 7,099 yards.

However, his time in Greenville came to an end when he decided to enter the transfer portal back in January. The rising sixth-year senior had one year of eligibility remaining when he committed to Villanova.

  • 2020 — pandemic, didn’t count
  • 2021 — redshirt, didn’t count
  • 2022 — first year of eligibility at ECU
  • 2023 — second year of eligibility at ECU
  • 2024 — third year of eligibility at ECU
  • 2025 — fourth (and final) year of eligibility at Villanova

But don’t get it twisted! Larsen is an academic weapon in the classroom and left ECU with two degrees.

And then it was off to Philadelphia.

His teammates love to rag him for his age.

Luke Larsen is going to be the starting punter for the Wildcats in 2025. His 33-year-old leg could prove to be the difference when it comes to Villanova’s FCS playoff run if he can keep flipping the field!
