ESPN personality and former Indianapolis Colts punter Pat McAfee called the MLB’s Home Run Derby and most viewers weren’t a fan of his commentary. On Monday night, social media was filled with complaints about ESPN shoehorning McAfee into the broadcast, as they so often do.
The network has gone all-in on Pat McAfee in recent years, featuring him and his Pat McAfee Show crew in a bevy of events, with the MLB Home Run Derby being the latest example.
Some sports fans seem to be reaching their breaking point with McAfee’s over exposure, however, as Twitter was full of complaints about his All-Star game commentary.
Baseball fans couldn’t stand listening to Pat McAfee during the Home Run Derby
“Does ESPN know that Pat McAfee is bad at his job and subsequently annoys the f out of anyone who isn’t 17 years old?” one viral tweet complained.
“ESPN needs to enable a feature that allows people to unsubscribe from Pat McAfee in all formats,” another added.

Longtime ESPN anchor and host Trey Wingo weighed in on the current state of ESPN’s talent
Clearly coming across the complaints about Pat McAfee, former ESPN stalwart Trey Wingo even weighed in on the topic.
“Let me preface this by saying I have so many wonderful memories and so many great friends still working there that I want to succeed… but he’s right. It used to be a glorious buffet where you could pick and choose what you wanted. Now it’s like a banquet dinner: chicken or fish?” McAfee said.

Wingo’s tweet was in reply to someone claiming that “Kids today don’t realize it, but you used to be able to turn on ESPN and not see Stephen A. Smith or Pat McAfee.”
The 61 years old Wingo began working at ESPN in 1997 and remained with the network until 2020, where he hosted shows such as SportsCenter, NFL Live, and Golic and Wingo.
