Pat McAfee spoke out on the Charlie Kirk situation on social media. On Wednesday, Kirk was fatally shot in the neck at an event in Utah.
After his death, there have been various takes on both sides of the aisle about Kirk’s beliefs and past comments.
On Thursday, to open his ESPN show, McAfee called for unity following Kirk’s death.
“I don’t think everyone has to get along or everyone has to agree, but at least we could move forward without hating each other, which is seemingly what social media has done to us…Whenever people try to compete on who is the meanest on the other side of the aisle, you’re going to inevitably run into some chaos happening in our world, and I’m not a political person”

McAfee also talked about wanting his show to be a positive reflection of society.
“Our jobs are to distract people from the real world, and kind of make a little bit of levity, and maybe let you know that there is good sh– happening in this world, there’s good people in this world, there’s great things in this world”

Hours after Kirk’s death on Wednesday, McAfee honored the political commentator on social media.
Charlie Kirk, a name synonymous with having the courage to speak what you believe and seek/welcome conversations with those whom you disagree with.
I’m not a political person but I am a proud American citizen and today was startling, saddening, and maddening all at the same…
