The Pittsburgh Pirates have long been an afterthought in the MLB zeitgeist, other than a star like Andrew McCutcheon and Paul Skenes. But, a terrible tragedy has unfolded at PNC Park on Wednesday that has sadly put the franchise in the news.

Right in the middle of a play that gave the Pirates the lead over the NL Central-leading Cubs, a fan tumbled down from the 21-foot tall Roberto Clemente Wall in right field. He appeared to land on his head, and was stretchered off the field.

During a double on a broken play that gave the Pirates a 4-3 lead in the 7th, this happened. Take a look.

Emergency personnel quickly responded.

The Pirates have released a statement on the incident.

The game was delayed about ten minutes as the fan was stretchered off the field, and as of 9:18 PM, no other information was available. It’s unclear how exactly the fan ended up going over the railing.

Overall, a very scary scene at PNC Park.
