A new poll will prove one of two things: (1) half of the people in America are right there with you when it comes to believing in aliens, or (2) half of America is even dumber than you thought. Where you fall in this proposition is a personal choice. No judging here.

According to this new poll, not only do most Americans believe aliens exist, but a good chunk of them also think aliens have visited Earth. 47%, to be exact, believe aliens have “definitely or probably visited Earth.”

“56% of Americans believe aliens definitely or probably exist, more than the shares of Americans who believe Bigfoot (28%), the Yeti (23%), the Loch Ness monster (22%), or Chupacabra (16%) definitely or probably exist,” a recap of the results of the YouGov poll reveals.

Of course, when touching upon such a divisive subject, the pollsters couldn’t simply stop there. No, sir. They also found out that 30% of Americans believe UFOs, or unidentified flying objects, are probably alien ships or life forms.

Will humans ever make contact with aliens? And would that be a good thing?

Actual contact with aliens may or may not happen within our lifetimes, but a lot of people think it will happen at some point. 16% of Americans think we will definitely or probably make contact with alien life within the next 10 years, the survey revealed. The longer we wait, the more likely it is going to happen, according to the survey.

“29% think we will make contact within the next 50 years, 42% think we will do so in the next 100 years, and 46% think we will make contact with alien life in the next 200 years.”

Would making contact with aliens be a good thing, though? There are many schools of thought on this, but according to the survey, 29% think it would be a bad thing. Just 14% think it would be a positive.

More interesting insights gained by this survey of Americans

• 28% of Americans believe that if we encountered aliens, it would make the world’s countries and people more united with more cooperation.

• 74% say it’s very or somewhat likely that if we encountered aliens, they would be far more technologically advanced than humans.

• 55% believe aliens will introduce new diseases that can infect humans.

• 43% think it’s likely they would unintentionally harm or kill people. The same percentage think aliens would come in peace.

All of speculation this is moot, of course, if Tennessee Congressman Tim Burchett is correct in his claim that the United States government has knowledge about underwater alien bases. If that’s true, then all bets are off.
