Alabama wide receiver Ryan Williams remains in concussion protocol after a pair of hits to the head. It is unclear as to when he will be ready to return.

However, the Crimson Tide appeared to hint at his status with its video from practice on Tuesday.

He was on the field with the rest of his college football teammates but he was not cleared for contact. This could also be a smoke screen.

Ryan Williams suffered a concussion.

Williams was sandwiched by a pair of Florida State defenders on a screen play over the middle. The 18-year-old pass-catcher lost track of the ball and was unable to haul it in as he got crushed.

Alabama’s training staff did not go out onto the field to check on him even though he fell awkwardly. It was as if his brain could not keep his body upright.

Williams ultimately stayed in the game until he took another blow to the noggin during the fourth quarter.

The team added their star wide receiver to the injury list after the game. He was still in concussion protocol as of Monday evening.

Will he play against ULM?

Alabama hosts Louisiana-Monroe in Tuscaloosa on Saturday. Should the Crimson Tide somehow lose to the Warhawks, Kalen DeBoer will be fired.

That isn’t going to happen and they don’t need Ryan Williams to win.

Thus, I would imagine that he is not going to play in any capacity. There is no need to have him out there other than to get live game reps with new quarterback Ty Simpson. Get him healthy!

With that in mind, it seems as though they are still getting those reps during practice. A video from Tuesday appears to show a black No. 2 jersey enter the frame during receiver drills at the 16-second mark.

A black jersey establishes the ‘no contact’ tag for the defense. Any player wearing a black jersey will be down by touch.

If that is actually Ryan Williams in a black jersey, I am surprised he is already back on the field. That seems to indicate that he might be good to go by the weekend.

Either that, or it is a smoke screen. I could see Alabama trying to bait ULM into preparing for a player who is not going to play but I doubt it.
