Sam Pittman Is Going To Be Fired After Arkansas Forgot How To Tackle During Ugly Defensive Collapse

Sam Pittman seems like a great guy. He is still going to be fired as the college football coach at Arkansas.

If we’re being honest, it is a surprise that he even made it this far.

Assuming Pittman’s ouster is imminent, we might soon get to see Bobby Petrino back in the same role he once lost during one of the biggest scandals in college football history. Wouldn’t that be something?

Sam Pittman is cooked.

Nobody in Fayetteville is going to have celebratory intercourse with mashed potatoes tonight. (If you know you know.) The Razorbacks looked completely void of life on both sides of the ball during the first half against the Fighting Irish. Especially on defense.

One particular play before halftime put the proverbial nail in Pittman’s coffin.

Notre Dame set up on offense at the Arkansas 35-yard-line. CJ Carr dumped the ball off to running back Jadarian Price on a quick swing pass to the sideline.

There was nobody around him. Absolutely nobody.

The nearest Hogs defender was more than five yards past the line of scrimmage. He and his teammate were both being blocked on the perimeter. The defensive line was still caught up in the backfield.

If that was not bad enough, Price ran right into the heart of the defense and they still could not bring him down. What if I told you Arkansas did not make a tackle right here:

Jadarian Price cut back toward the middle of the field, avoided a would-be tackler, avoided another would-be tackler, and out-ran the defense to the end zone. Notre Dame went up 42-13 at halftime.

Barring a miraculous second-half comeback, that will be the final first half of Sam Pittman’s 66-game run as head coach of the Razorbacks. I would be shocked if he is not fired by the end of the weekend.

That means… Bobby Petrino is waiting. Arkansas could elevate their former head coach to the interim head coach position after a two-year run as the offensive coordinator. Fingers crossed.
