Most of the stadiums and arenas that are home to professional sports teams sell some items at the concession stands that are designed to help them stand out from the pack. That’s certainly the case with the barn that’s home to the San Jose Sharks, as fans who attend a game can now purchase a bucket of popcorn that also contains chunks of Pop-Tarts.
Dietary health probably isn’t the first thing on your mind if you’re getting food at a sporting event, and I think many people who do make a conscious effort to keep their waistline in check opt to treat an excursion to one as an excuse for a cheat day.
Can you watch a game without drinking multiple overpriced beers and scarfing down copious amounts of carbs that may or may not be deep-fried? Sure, but what’s the fun in that?
You usually don’t have to wander too far to find a concession stand slinging hot dogs, nachos, and other forms of standard stadium fare, but many teams have gotten increasingly creative by offering fans gourmet food and over-the-top twists on classics that are usually tailormade to go viral.
It seems like the San Jose Sharks had that goal in mind with their new take on a popcorn bucket, and they certainly have people’s attention.
The Sharks have unleashed a “Chum Bucket” containing popcorn, Pop-Tarts, chocolate, and freeze-dried strawberries on an unsuspecting world
The Sharks have not exactly given fans a ton of incentive to make the trek to SAP Center for a game in quite some time, as the team hasn’t posted a winning record since losing in the conference finals in 2019 and headed into the current season in the midst of a six-year playoff drought.
San Jose did get an assist in its quest to drum up interest after it earned the right to draft Macklin Celebrini with the first overall pick in the most recent NHL Draft. The rookie, who won the Hobey Baker Award during his one and only season at BU, may not be surrounded by Connor Bedard levels of hype, but he’s still poised to be a star.
Sharks fans who get the chance to watch him do his thing in the team’s barn this season will be able to do so while snacking down on a fairly unholy culinary creation dubbed “The Chum Bucket,” which features buttered popcorn mixed with strawberry Pop-Tarts, chocolates covered in teal and red coating, and freeze-dried strawberries.

I can’t imagine anyone really asked for that, but I feel like I’d have trouble resisting the urge to see what it was all about now that I know it exists.
