Farts are universally and objectively funny, and we were reminded of that reality when some emphatic flatulence was captured on the broadcast that was focused on Scottie Scheffler during the first round of The British Open. It wasn’t initially clear who the culprit was, but the man who earned the right to hoist the Claret Jug for the first time happily took responsibility in the wake of the win.
Anyone who plays golf on a regular basis is likely very aware that there’s only so much you can do to prevent nature from calling over the course of a round. Most courses will have at least a couple of dedicated bathroom facilities scattered around the property, but you’re usually at the whim of your own body when it comes to dealing with any emergencies.
Professional golfers tend to have a bit more options when it comes to relieving themselves during a round, but that doesn’t mean issues don’t occasionally arise. Rickie Fowler blamed a bogey-bogey finish at a tournament in 2023 on his urge to find a bathroom, and while the PGA Tour pledged to add more later that year after Jon Rahm called attention to the issue, Jose Ballester also caught some heat after he revealed he urinated in Rae’s Creek during The Masters this April.
It was also evident someone at Royal Portrush was dealing with a little bit of internal turmoil when a microphone at The Open Championship picked up a fairly vociferous fart on the first day of the tournament, and we finally know who the culprit was.
Scottie Scheffler wasn’t afraid to admit he was the person who got caught farting during The British Open
Scottie Scheffler was sitting at -2 when he teed off on the 17th hole during the first round of the 153rd edition of The Open Championship last Thursday.
Viewers who were tuned in to watch him attempt his second shot 110 yards away from the flagstick were treated to an incredibly amusing moment courtesy of the audible fart that made the commentators crack up before one of them quipped there was “just a little bit of wind from behind” after he swung.

It was initially unclear who ripped the fart in question; it didn’t seem like a stretch to suggest Scheffler was the source, although there was also a chance it had emanated from his caddie, another person in the vicinity, or even someone in the broadcast booth.
Thankfully, that mystery was solved when the man who ultimately completed the third leg of the career grand slam with his first victory at The British Open appeared on Pardon My Take and took credit.

Scheffler noted he had no real reason to be ashamed due to the largely unavoidable nature of golf farts, saying:
“Oh yeah, that was me. You’re out there for like six hours. You’re eating some different food over there, some stuff’s gonna happen. You never know when the boom mic’s there; you never know what they’re gonna pick up.”
Dudes rock.
