DeAndre Carter and Shedeur Sanders will be NFL teammates with the Cleveland Browns. The former is already backing the latter into a $100,000 corner.
The team assigned jersey numbers to its new players this week. Carter’s past professional experience gave him first dibs.
Carter is entering his eighth season with a seventh different organization. He’s racked up 1,331 receiving yards as a pass catcher while spending a large part of his time on special teams duty.
He will wear No. 2 in Cleveland. Carter has never worn the jersey number as a pro. He last donned No. 2 at Sacramento State a decade ago. He’ll debut his new number this fall.
By selecting that jersey number, Carter prevented incoming rookie Shedeur Sanders from picking his college number. The first-year quarterback will instead wear No. 12… maybe.

Sanders has been assigned No. 12, but as we’ve seen in the past, there are ways to work around those preseason assignments. Just last year, wide receiver Stefon Diggs paid Jimmie Ward six figures for his No. 1 jersey. Others have done the same.
A number of NFL fans believed the move to be calculated on DeAndre Carter’s part. “Carter picking No. 2 is hilarious,” wrote one social media user. “Getting that bag on his way out of the league.”
“He knew what he was doing picking that number,” said another. “Shedeur will use daddy’s money to pay him for it.”
Shedeur Sanders will forever be linked to No. 2 given his college success. His jersey was retired after two seasons at Colorado. He will not, however, begin his professional career in his patented uniform. That is, unless he wants to pay for it.
