Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders told fans to keep an eye on his cleats for the Alamo Bowl for a hint as to wear he’ll play in the NFL. Sanders then unveiled custom-made New York Giants cleats for the game. The Giants look set to pick No. 1 overall in the 2025 NFL Draft.
There was just one big problem. Sanders proceeded to have his worst game of the year against BYU in the Alamo Bowl. He completed 16 of 23 passes for just 208 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in a 36-14 drubbing at the hands of the Cougars. It marked just the second time all season that Sanders threw multiple interceptions in a contest.

Fans Mock Shedeur Sanders For Wearing New York Giants Cleats In Poor Performance
Of course, fans were quick to blame both the cleats and the New York Giants for the brutal performance.
“Shedeur put on Giants cleats and his life started falling apart,” one fan tweeted.
“I knew Colorado was going to struggle as soon as i saw that Shedeur Sanders posted the cleats,” wrote another.
Of course, the fact that Sanders played in the game at all came as a shock to many who expected him to opt out. Not only did Sanders play, but he played the entire game despite the blowout last. That was in stark contrast to Miami quarterback Cam Ward, who left the Pop-Tarts Bowl at halftime with his team leading 31-28. The Hurricanes proceeded to lose to Iowa State 42-41, raising serious questions about Ward’s commitment to his team.
Sanders and Ward are the consensus top two quarterback prospects in the 2025 NFL Draft, with scouts interchanging their ranking depending on how you ask. Both, however, did themselves a disservice on Saturday in two very different manners.
