Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham has revealed that she’s been fined by the WNBA for a third time this season. This latest fine stems from comments she made about how the refs were treating Dallas Wings rookie Paige Bueckers.
Earlier this month, Sophie Cunningham was recapping the Indiana Fever’s matchup against the Dallas Wings and accused the refs over giving rookie Paige Bueckers, the #1 overall pick in this year’s WNBA Draft, preferentially treatment.

“I love Paige [Bueckers] to death, do not get me wrong … I think she’s a hell of a player and would love to play with her one day, but those refs were giving her every whistle last night,” Cunningham said on the Show Me Something podcast earlier this month.
“Like you literally couldn’t touch her, couldn’t touch her. If you’re going to do that, then give it to our guards.”
On this week’s episode of her podcast, Cunningham revealed that those comments resulted in another fine from the WNBA — her third of the season.
“I’m officially three-for-three on being fined by the WNBA… They didn’t like my comments on Paige Bueckers. I didn’t even say anything bad.”

In late July, Cunningham was fined $1500 by the WNBA for comments she made about the refs on her podcast and another $500 for a TikTik video in which she criticized the league’s refereesWNBA.

This week, it was also confirmed that Cunningham would be missing the rest of the season due to an MCL tear she suffered in her right knee in a game against the Connecticut Sun on Sunday, August 17.
Cunningham was averaging 8.6 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game for the Fever this season, her first with the team after spending the first six seasons of her WNBA career with the Phoenix Mercury.
