Sheryl Swoopes is getting into battles with all sorts of people this year thanks her dismissive attitude towards Caitlin Clark.
From not knowing the facts before speaking to ripping Caitlin Clark’s fans to creating a rift with a longtime friend to getting into a war of words with Stephen A. Smith, Swoopes has been all over the place.
Out of all of those things, getting into a verbal spat with Stephen A. Smith might have been the biggest mistake Swoopes made.
A couple of weeks back, Sheryl Swoopes didn’t even mention Caitlin Clark during her Queens of the Court podcast when discussing how well the Indiana Fever have been playing since the Olympics break.
On his podcast following her conspicuously ignoring Clark when talking about the Fever, Smith asked, “Do you realize, Sheryl Swoopes, that you’re insane to do that?”
Swoopes then shot back at Smith on X (Twitter), writing, “You talk about whomever and whatever you want to on your podcast. Correct? So why can’t I? Also, did you listen to the ENTIRE episode? NOPE! I have a personal relationship with these players and they deserve recognition as well.”
Swoopes added in another post, “Not sure what he thought he was doing? He still in his feelings about MM (Monica McNutt) putting him in his place. I’m ready to go on his show!! Coward.”
Of course, Stephen A. Smith could not let that stand and addressed Sheryl Swoopes calling him a coward.
“She made news last week when she sat up there and was applauding Indiana Fever players, but then forgot to mention Caitlin Clark,” Smith said on his podcast on Monday.
“She jumped all on my a– because I sat up there and said, ‘Hey, how are you going to ignore Caitlin Clark? You know what she brings to the table. How are you just gonna ignore her? That’s not an accident.’”
Smith also said to Swoopes, “Yes, I did listen to your entire podcast. You didn’t mention Caitlin Clark. So I was right, number one. Number two: your personal relationship, what’s that got to do with your coverage?”
“I can understand why Sheryl Swoopes would have an attitude with people who would question her professional objectivity, but I also understand why people would look at her like she’s lost her ever-loving mind,” Smith continued. “Because you’re literally putting the lack of professional objectivity on display for audiences to see, and then you’re looking at us acting like, ‘What’s wrong?’
“It’s like you’re spitting in people’s face and telling them it’s raining. It makes no sense.”
As for Swoopes calling him a coward?
“All I’m gonna say is, it was pretty damn immature to come back at me like that. Call me an f—— coward because I called you out for not doing your job?”
