The Tarleton State football team pulled off one of the biggest upsets of Week 1. The Texans knocked off Army as a 14.5-point road underdog.
They celebrated the Knights‘ downfall by desecrating the locker room. Those postgame festivities are now going viral on social media.
The Texans are in just their sixth season at the FCS level. They reclassified in 2020, making the transition from Division II.
Army was Tarleton State’s fifth-ever FBS opponent. That standing had no impact on the outcome of the game.
Tarleton State picked up a huge football win.
The Texans opened their season in Week 0 with a 42-0 shellacking of Portland State. The momentum continued into Week 1.
Army came in fresh off a 12-win season and American Conference Championship. While they did lose talent from last year’s roster, they were expected to take care of business at home against a “lesser” foe.
The Black Knights jumped out to a 24-10 second half lead. The Texans used a 14-0 run to close the gap and send the game into overtime.
The two sides traded field goals in the first extra session before Tarleton State walked it off with a game-winning kick in overtime No. 2.
Players quickly celebrated the upset after the fact. They might’ve taken things a step too far.

Video posted to TikTok account @piusnjenge showed players getting buck wild after the game. A caption read, “POV: You just ruined someone’s parlay.”
Pius Njenge is a defensive lineman on the Tarleton State football team. It would appear that the account belongs to the transfer, who also played at Garnder-Webb, Lamar, and Southern Nazarene.
The video has since been deleted from the TikTok account amid backlash.
“Disgusting way to represent yourself and school,” one follower wrote on X. “Apparently you can teach someone to play football, but you can’t teach class,” echoed another.
Tarleton State got a huge win over Army. They received criticism for the celebration. They’ll look to put the desecration behind them and continue their winning ways in Week 2 vs. Mississippi Valley State.
