The Texas baseball team took down Houston Christian in their NCAA Regional opener on Friday, 7-1. There was a scary moment in the action midway through that contest.
Huskies second baseman Jeremy Rader had to be removed from the game after winding up on the wrong end of a hard slide from Jonah Williams. Video of the play has social media split.
Was it a dirty play? You be the judge!

Jonah Williams was the player that slid into second base. Some believe the contact to accidental. Others say it was intentional.
The only thing we do know comes from what we see in the clip. Williams’ foot was extended a few inches in the air. There was no attempt to get it on the dirt.
With that being said, the slide started well before Rader caught the ball and fell to the ground. With Williams turning his back to the play, it’s possible he didn’t see Rader’s head and neck come into his path.
🙏 for Houston Christian 2B Jeremy Rader. Took a cleat to the neck on a slide. Rader able to walk to dugout for examination. Jonah Williams expresses sportsmanship as Rader walks by. pic.twitter.com/jwuqkfhyoO

The second baseman was immediately removed from the game. He did, however, return to play in the Huskies’ Saturday afternoon matchup against Kansas State.
Most want to believe there was no malicious intent behind the slide. Unfortunately, previous antics played a part in some followers’ opinions. They made their minds up on his intentions before having solid evidence!
Jonah Williams has become a college baseball villain.
The freshman rubbed SEC baseball fans the wrong way during a regular season contest against Florida. He was seen taunting the Gators after drawing a walk while his team trailed by seven runs.

He’s certainly not lacking confidence. Still, many were peeved by the display of cockiness. This most recent slide gave his haters another reason to chirp.
Williams has been able to back his trash talk up in NCAA Regional action. Through two games, he’s hit .375 with three runs scored and a pair of RBIs.
Unfortunately, it hasn’t been enough to keep the Longhorns out of the loser’s bracket. After dropping a Saturday contest to UTSA, they find themselves one game away from elimination.
