While Texas Tech ace NiJaree Canady got all the publicity, it was Texas Longhorns superstar Mia Scott, playing on a torn ACL, who stole the show in the final game of the Women’s College World Series.
ESPN’s Holly Rowe initially revealed the injury, which Scott had previously kept hidden, during Friday night’s broadcast of the third and final game.
“She has been an absolute star, probably the MVP defensively at the World Series,” Rowe said. “She’s doing all of this with a torn ACL. She didn’t care that we told the world because she’s playing so well, it does not matter.”
THEN MIA SCOTT HIT A GRAND SLAM 😱

Mia Scott Puts Up Insane Stat Line On Torn ACL To Lead Texas To WCWS Title
Scott exemplified Rowe’s point in the winner-take-all game. First, she made an incredible diving play at third base to steal a hit from a Texas Tech batter. Then, with her team already holding a big lead, Scott hit a grand slam in the bottom of the fourth inning to put the Longhorns up 10-0.
She finished the Women’s College World Series with five hits in eight at-bats, two walks, two home runs, five RBIs and four runs scored to lead Texas to its first-ever softball national championship.
Even superstars in other sports, such as Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, took notice.
“3rd baseman for Texas is cold..” Mahomes, a Texas Tech alum, posted on X.
Despite her incredible play, Scott isn’t one for the limelight. According to Austin American-Statesman reporter Cedric Golden, Scott has not spoken to the media one time in her four years at Texas. That continued on Friday as she slipped out through a side door after head coach Mike White’s opening statement in the post-game press conference.
Talk about a silent assassin.
