Texas and Texas A&M will finally be renewing their rivalry after an unprecedented hiatus with a showdown that got slightly less intriguing after the Aggies lost to Auburn. However, that setback didn’t put much of a dent in the record-setting prices fans will have to stomach if they want to attend the game.

The Texas Longhorns faced off against Texas A&M on the gridiron for the first time all the way back in 1894, which marked the start of one of the most notable rivalries college football has to offer. The two schools faced off against each other every single year from 1915 to 2011, but that tradition came to an end when the Aggies made the leap from the Big 12 to the SEC.

It took close to 15 years, but that beef appeared back on the menu after Texas also opted to join college football’s most competitive conference, and the rivalry will officially be reignited when the Longhorns make the two-hour trek to Kyle Field for a highly-anticipated showdown on Saturday.

The Aggies are coming off of a shocking loss to Auburn that threw a serious wrench in their quest to make the College Football Playoff, but the game still has plenty of potential ramifications.

The winner will punch their ticket to the SEC Championship game against Georgia, and if Texas A&M is able to get a victory and go on to beat the Bulldogs, there’s a very real chance they could be one of the 12 teams playing for a national championship.

While I personally think the CFP committee will still give the Longhorns an invite if they end up falling to the Aggies, a loss on their end will throw a very interesting twist into the equation.

Texas currently boasts a 76-37-5 record in the series and is expected to come away with a win on Saturday as 6-point favorites. However, they’ll be facing a very hostile crowd in College Station filled with fans who will have to pay a very pretty penny to get through the gates.

Based on a tweet TickPick posted on Monday, the rebooted rivalry game is expected to be the most expensive regular season ticket ever sold at the college football and NFL level, as the cheapest ones were going for around $750 with the average hovering at close to $1,100 when the message was sent.

We didn’t really need any more proof they take football very seriously in Texas, but this only cements that reputation.
