If Tim Doyle is a man of his word, he must travel to Oxford, Mississippi at some point during the upcoming college football season to sit in a dunk tank at Ole Miss. The CBS Sports analyst made a bet with the university and its fanbase will make sure that he follows through.
It is the only chance for him to stay credible.
Doyle, a former college basketball player at Northwestern, currently serves as an on-air personality with NBA TV and CBS. He made $86,500 last year. How do we know? He voluntarily shared his salary during a rant about the Rebels on Saturday morning that came back to bite him on Sunday night.
However, this saga dates back to Selection Sunday on March 16.
Ole Miss made the NCAA Tournament as a No. 6 seed in the South Region. It paired with the winner of North Carolina and San Diego State in the First Round. Doyle immediately declared the Rebels as dead. To be more specific, he referred to them as fraudulent. In his opinion, there was no way that they were going to beat either the Tar Heels or the Aztecs.

He was wrong. Ole Miss smacked UNC (despite a second-half collapse) to advance to the Round of 32. Head coach Chris Beard directly addressed Doyle’s comment during his postgame press conference.
Tim Doyle, who I did not know existed prior to March Madness, was thrilled to be relevant so he doubled down. Even though he specifically said that Ole Miss would not beat UNC or SDSU, he immediately tried to claim that the “fraud” label still applied because North Carolina didn’t deserve to be in the Big Dance.
In doing so, Doyle offered his salary to the general public on live television. He also tried to belittle the Rebels and tried to say that “if this 6-seed does not beat a 3-seed in the second round, it is still a fraud.” Because that makes sense…
Not only did Doyle grasp at straws, he offered himself up to the University of Mississippi. If Ole Miss was to beat Iowa State, he would sit in a dunk tank at a football game in Oxford in the fall.

“You beat Iowa State….ok. Until then? The label still kind of fits.”
“Some would say this is one fraud team beating another. You beat a team that should not have been in.”

The Rebels dominated the Cyclones from start to finish. They won by 13 with a final score of 91-78 on Sunday night in Milwaukee. They will advance to the Sweet 16.
Doyle was very wrong, and to his credit, he owned it.

Beard and his players had a lot of fun at the analyst’s expense in the locker room after the game.

If Tim Doyle wants to hold on to what ever small amount of credibility he has left, he must attend a football game in Oxford next season. To tailgate in The Grove and experience one of the most beautiful campuses in the world does not sound too bad. In fact, it sounds more like a reward than a punishment.
Now enter the dunk tank. Doyle promised to sit in the dunk tank.
The Grove Collective, Ole Miss’ NIL arm, is already working to make it happen.
We will set this up at the @grovecollectnil tailgate.

Will Tim Doyle follow through? Ball is in his court.
