Actor Tom Felton, who portrayed the villainous Draco Malfoy in the original Harry Potter movie franchise, will be reprising the role on Broadway. Felton will be joining the cast of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child this Fall.
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is set 19 years after the final book in the main series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, and follows the second son Harry Potter, Albus Severus Potter. Harry is now the Head of the Department of Magic Law Enforcement at the Ministry of Magic, while Albus gets sorted into House Slyherin upon his arrival to Hogwarts.
In addition to Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy, returning characters from the main franchise include Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley, Ginny Potter, Severus Snape, Lord Voldemort, Cedric Diggory, Hagrid, and more.
“Joining this production will be a full-circle moment for me, because when I begin performances in ‘Cursed Child’ this fall, I’ll also be the exact age Draco is in the play,. It’s surreal to be stepping back into his shoes — and of course his iconic platinum blond hair — and I am thrilled to be able to see his story through and to share it with the greatest fan community in the world,” Felton said in a statement.
The announcement that Felton will be reprising his role of Draco Malfoy left some fans feeling bad for him, however. Other than Harry Potter, the 37-year-old Felton’s most notable roles have been in the 2011 film Rise of the Planet of the Apes and The CW series The Flash.

Felton’s casting in the Harry Potter broadway play comes just a few weeks after HBO announced the newcomer child actors that will be playing the starring trio of Potter, Hermione and Ron.
The lead trio of actors playing Harry, Hermione and Ron join the previously cast Jon Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Janet McTeer as Professor McGonagall, and Nick Frost as Hagrid.
