Jon Sumrall does not like Trent Dilfer and it seems like the rest of the AAC feels the same way. Tulane’s head coach publicly scoffed at UAB after its college football program was exposed for hypocritical behavior.

Believe it or not, the Blazers are (allegedly) doing the exact same thing that they are whining about.

Dilfer, 52, somehow managed to keep his job after a disastrous finish to the most recent college football season. UAB is one of the worst programs in the country. Its fanbase refuses to support the second-year head coach and stopped showing up to games in protest. A program that won nine games in 2021 and seven games in 2022 went 4-8 in 2023 and 3-9 in 2024.

Athletic director Mark Ingram still chose to retain Dilfer for 2025 amid calls for an immediate ouster. His decision immediately proved foolish when the Blazers signed a historically horrendous recruiting class.

Meanwhile, Dilfer continues to cry poor during media appearances. He constantly complains that UAB cannot afford to retain its best players because they are getting paid more money to serve in a backup role at programs with more NIL money on which to recruit but has yet to name any names. It is an exhausting narrative that, even if true, does not advance the conversation surrounding Name, Image and Likeness. Boohoo.

Sumrall is not afraid to call people out. The head coach of the Green Wave did exactly that in response to Dilfer’s most recent complaint. There is also some preexisting beef between them after Dilfer got weirdly handsy with Sumrall during a tense postgame interaction in the regular season.

Thus, the latter was quick to call out the former for hypocritical behavior.

According to Tulsa head coach Tre Lamb, UAB is tampering with his roster in the same way Trent Dilfer complains about other teams that tamper with his roster. Pot, meet kettle.

North Texas, Memphis, Tulane, UTSA and UAB are the schools we’re seeing the most in recruiting, and those guys are throwing $60,000, $70,000 at these guys, so we’ve got to be able to compete.

Jon Sumrall couldn’t believe it! His mind was blown!

The Trent Dilfer era in Birmingham has been a total disaster. He is so unliked in the AAC that opposing coaches are actively mocking him on social media for NIL hypocrisies. There is zero respect.
