Lindsey Hill, the woman who accused Trevor Bauer of a violent assault, must now pay him $300,000 for violating the terms of their settlement agreement, says a judge. The case had been settled in 2023 with neither party paying the other anything.
Bauer, who last pitched in the big leagues in 2021, has been playing in the Japan Central League, the Japan Eastern League, and the Mexican League since being suspended for violating Major League Baseball’s domestic violence policy despite never actually being charged with a crime. It was Hill’s accusations that triggered Bauer being placed on administrative leave by MLB, eventually costing him $37.5 million in salary.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Trevor Bauer sued Lindsey Hill because after agreeing to the settlement she stated on social media that the 34-year-old former Cy Young Award winner “handed back an insurance sum to me that was meant for him in order for me to drop my countersuit” and made 21 other similar claims on social media or on a podcast.
Bauer sued Hill last October for breaking the agreement which forbid her from saying Bauer or any representative “paid her any money as consideration for the settlement.” Those violations, according to the agreement, Bauer’s lawyers claim, cost $10,000 each.
This week, a judge awarded Trevor Bauer $309,832.02 – $220,000 for the 22 violations of the agreement, plus attorney fees and costs, plus interest – by default judgement after Lindsey Hill did not contest or respond to the lawsuit.
In April of 2024, another Trevor Bauer accuser, Darcy Adanna Esemonu, was charged with felony fraud and theft by extortion for crimes allegedly perpetrated against Bauer and another man.
Since his suspension by Major League Baseball, Bauer, who claims that he has been blackballed by MLB until next year, has gone 24-7 with a 2.71 ERA and 353 strikeouts in 316 innings pitched for the Yokohama Bay Stars and Diablos Rojos del Mexico. During his MLB career, Bauer went 83-69 with a 3.79 ERA and 1,416 strikeouts in 1,297.2 innings. He was 8-5 with a 2.59 ERA for the Los Angeles Dodgers at the time of his suspension by Major League Baseball in 2021.
