Former MLB Cy Young Award winner swears that he’s still one of the best starting pitchers on the planet. But it’s become abundantly clear with each time he takes the mound that that is no longer the case.
Bauer, who is currently toiling in Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball League, hit a new low recently. The controversial pitcher made a start on short rest to face the Chiba Lotte Marines, who have the worst offense in the NPB with a .583 OPS and 75 weighted Runs Created+. But things didn’t go according to plan.

Trevor Bauer Had Laughably Low Game Score In Start Against Japan’s Worst Offense
Chiba Lotte absolutely shelled Bauer. He pitched just one inning, allowing seven runs on eight hits and one walk and had a Tango Game Score, which is on a scale from 0-100, of just 3.
Mind you, just five months ago, Bauer said that “There are like 20 hitters on the planet that are true competition for me. I’d steamroll the rest of them.” He also went on to say that he’s the biggest star in the game outside of Shohei Ohtani.
Now, maybe if you conflate fame and infamy, that could be true. Bauer does get talked about a lot. But usually it’s people laughing at his downfall these days.
After a Cy Young Award-winning season in Cincinnati, Bauer joined the Los Angeles Dodgers before leaving the team amid sexual assault allegations. He was found not guilty criminally, the facts of the case are largely up in the air. Additionally, Bauer is just genuinely not very well-liked among his teammates.
Combine those facts with the fact that he apparently isn’t very good at pitching, and it sure seems as if his days playing high-level professional baseball are nearing an end, and nobody other than him seems to be upset about it.
