Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Gabe Davis had to be held back by his teammates during a heated altercation with quarterback Trevor Lawrence on Sunday that was not caught on video. He then proceeded to fumble on his next reception.
The series of unfortunate events is the perfect summation of the only team to begin the 2024 NFL season at 0-4.
Davis was wide open over the middle of the field on 3rd-and-6 during the first quarter. It seemed as though Lawrence looked his way for a moment but elected to throw short of the sticks to tight end Brenton Strange.
Gotta give it to Gabe here pic.twitter.com/ssK8kIVW5v

That did not go over well.
According to CBS sideline reporter Aditi Kinkhabwala, Davis approached Lawrence about the missed connection. What started as an intense conversation between frustrated teammates quickly turned into a full-blown altercation. Lawrence threw his tablet at the ground out of anger. Davis tried to get physical and had to be restrained by other players on the sideline, like offensive lineman Brandon Scherff.
Somehow, video of the spat does not exist, even though CBS deploys anywhere between 12 and 20 cameras per broadcast. There isn’t even a fan video on social media. All we have (for now) is/was Kinkhabwala’s account of what supposedly happened.
Fortunately for the Jaguars, Davis and Lawrence seemed to make amends on the field. Unfortunately, the former immediately fumbled after catching his very next pass from the latter after the argument.

Maybe ball security concerns was part of the reason that Trevor Lawrence didn’t throw to Gabe Davis. Perhaps the slight was unintentional.
Either way, it is never a good sign when the starting quarterback of an 0-4 team almost comes to blows with one of his top pass-catchers. There is obviously some tension starting to boil in Jacksonville, if it hasn’t already, and the way to cure these problems is by winning.
More losses will only lead to more disagreement!
