Ferris State athletic director Steve Brockelbank wants ESPN to stop asking dumb questions. The Worldwide Leader in Sports could not comprehend how Trinidad Chambliss ended up playing college football at a small Division-II school in Michigan.

Do they not know ball in Bristol?!

The Bulldogs are one of the most dominant programs in college football over the last five years. They recruit talented players and develop those players into consistent winners.

Who is Ole Miss’ starting quarterback?

There is something of a quarterback controversy brewing in Oxford, Mississippi.

19-year-old redshirt sophomore Austin Simmons began the season as QB1. He won his first two games as the starter against Georgia State and Kentucky but he didn’t look all that sharp with four interceptions to just three touchdowns. And he suffered a sprained ankle against the Wildcats.

As a result, Trinidad Chambliss took over as the starter against Arkansas in Week 3. Simmons got back in the game for one drive in the first half but an option play left him with an even worse sprain than before.

Chambliss ultimately led the Rebels to a win over the Hogs and a dominant win over the Tulane Green Wave on Saturday. The 6-foot-1, 201-pound dual-threat signal-caller completed 67.7% of his passes for 719 yards and four touchdowns and ran for 195 yards and two touchdowns in relief of Simmons over the last two weeks. He is a lot of fun to watch. The offense looked sharp.

Here’s the thing…

Ole Miss plays No. 3-ranked LSU on Saturday. Lane Kiffin said on Monday that Austin Simmons will be the team’s starting quarterback when he is 100% healthy. But is he 100% healthy? We’ll see…

Where did Trinidad Chambliss come from?

Trinidad Chambliss transferred to Ole Miss in the spring after three seasons at Ferris State University. Ferris State is a 10,000-student public school in Big Rapids, Michigan.

The Bulldogs compete in the Great Lakes Interscholastic Athletic Conference on the Division-II level. They won three national championships since the turn of the decade!

Chambliss, who grew up in nearby Grand Rapids and played at Forest Hills Northern, arrived to campus in 2022. He went 8-1 as the starting quarterback in 2023. The Bulldogs won a national title at 14-1 in 2024.

Offensive coordinator Charlie Weiss actually discovered his current starting quarterback on social media. The Rebels did whatever it took to get him to Oxford for this exact reason. They knew they found something special and he served as a strong insurance policy for Simmons. Maybe more!

ESPN had questions after watching Trinidad Chambliss play for Ole Miss against Arkansas and Tulane. Their on-air personalities repeatedly asked the same thing: How did he end up at Ferris State?

Steve Brockelbank, the athletic director in Big Rapids, put them in their place.

“Well let me help you out. We win, we have coaches who can flat out recruit and develop student-athletes, and it’s a great place. Stop asking dumb questions!”

Real ball-knowers are aware of the Bulldogs and their reign on D2 football over the last five years. The folks up in Bristol clearly don’t know ball!
