UCF Students Ruthlessly Booed Head Football Coach Gus Malzahn At Famous Homecoming Event

A large number of UCF students voiced their displeasure with head football coach Gus Malzahn prior to the school’s most famous homecoming event on Friday. It seems as though they are growing tired with their college football team’s performance over the last two years.

Perhaps they do not understand just how bad the Knights used to be, or maybe they are a direct reflection of the expectations in Orlando.

Malzahn was hired to replace Josh Huepel in 2021. He led UCF to nine wins in back-to-back seasons right out of the gate, including a bowl win over Florida. However, the excitement started to sour when the Citronauts went 6-7 in 2023. They are 3-4 through seven games in 2024.

UCF spent a lot of NIL money to land former Arkansas quarterback K.J. Jefferson through the transfer portal during the offseason. His frame and style of play drew a lot of comparisons to Cam Newton, who Malzahn coached to a national championship at Auburn. Folks in Central Florida legitimately expected Jefferson to lead their team to the College Football Playoff out of the Big 12.

All of that money (and hope) went to waste. Jefferson was relegated to the bottom of the three-deep depth chart and probably won’t make another start.

Fans are not happy with the results thus far!

UCF held its Spirit Splash at the center of campus on Friday. Students are encouraged to charge into the Reflecting Pond and catch all kinds of giveaways— especially rubber ducks. It’s a thing they do.
