Major League Baseball couldn’t have asked for anything more when they got a Los Angeles Dodgers-New York Yankees World Series.
The Yankees are the most successful team in MLB history in the country’s biggest media market. The Dodgers, similarly, are one of the league’s glamour franchises in the second-biggest media market and boast a roster with the league’s biggest star and best player.
So, what does all that mean for the Game 1 ratings on FOX? Big, big numbers.

Game 1 of the 2024 World Series between the Yankees and Dodgers averaged 15.2 million viewers across all FOX broadcasts. That makes it the most-watched World Series Game 1 since 2017 when the Dodgers squared off with the Houston Astros.
Houston went on to win that series 4-3.
Friday’s Game 1 ended in historic fashion when Freddie Freeman hit a walk-off grand slam off of Yankees pitcher Nestor Cortes.
Freeman said that he dedicated his big moment to father, who he embraced immediately after crossing home plate.
“My swing is because of him,” Freeman said. “My approach is because of him. I am who I am because of him. It was kind of spur of the moment. … I just wanted to share that with him because he’s been there. He’s been through a lot in his life too, and just to have a moment like that, I just wanted to be a part of that with him in that moment.”
He also told reporters that he knew he’d hit a home run shortly after making contact.
“As soon as he swung, I knew it was a good swing,” Freeman told The Athletic. “But you never know. [I thought] is it far enough? Is it far enough? And then I saw him do the mic drop with the bat. And I knew it was gone.”
